Starting Solids

(Logan's six month post is coming.  I'm just waiting until after his doctor's appointment.)

It is time for another milestone!  Logan got his first taste of food.  I have been asked multiple times if we had started yet.  Not to repeat my lengthy post from when Olivia started solids, but I am a firm believer in waiting until at least 6 months to start any kind of food.  Not only was it recommended to me by two different pediatricians to wait, but it is also recommended by the WHO and many other medical organizations.  A simple google search will give you all the information you need, but this link hits most of the points that I based my decision off of.  Milk should be a child's main source of nutrition for the first year of their life.  Food is just icing on the cake.

{{Stepping off my soap box...}}
We started with avocados just like with Olivia.

He wasn't sure about it, but he clearly wanted more!

He actually did pretty good.  Olivia made all sorts of funny faces and kept spitting it out the first time.  He still has some tongue thrusting, but he didn't act like it was nasty or anything.

He really just wanted to hold the spoon and feed himself.

Michael video taped it too, but Olivia was eating lunch at the table and she laughed through the whole entire thing.  She thought Logan eating his first food was just hilarious!

That's a typical Logan face.  What can I say?  My children are expressive! :)

just because he's cute!

This kid and his eyebrows...

I don't even think he ate an ounce.  You can't tell by the dozens of pictures though, can you!?! :)  And there are so many other ones I didn't put on here.  haha!

I know a lot of people don't really follow the 4 day rule, nor do they pay attention to foods that are high allergens (saw a baby sucking on a strawberry on Facebook last week! ah!), but due to our history we do both.  So for now we are sticking to avocados.  Next up is sweet potatoes.  I'm not anticipating any allergy issues, but I'm also not taking the risk.  (I have personally known multiple people who had to rush their infant to the Dr. because they fed them pineapple, eggs, or strawberries too early.  Call me crazy, but I'll wait.)

  1. I'm with you - I didn't start food with either girl until 6 months & we spent the whole first month just introducing basics for 3-4 days to make sure there are no allergies. Sophie just started getting mixed fruits & veggies around 7 months.
