One Month (Logan)

Logan Michael, you are one month old!

What have you been up to?

*As of your doctor's appointment yesterday, you are..
21.7 inches long
10 pounds, 10 ounces
and have a 39.5 cm head circumference

*You eat every 3 to 4 hours, but have gone as long as 5 hours a few times.

*You eat about 3 1/2 to 4 ounces every feeding.  Your daily total fluctuates between 22 and 24 1/2 ounces.

*You sleep anywhere from 3 to 5 hours at night, but unfortunately you want to stay up for an hour to an hour and a half after at least one of those middle of the night feeds.  We have been doing everything we can to teach you the difference between day and night.  Hopefully you stop that soon!

*We aren't on a strict schedule, but do have a routine down.  We attempt to follow the Eat, Activity, Sleep cycle the best we can.

*Just like your sister, you aren't a fan of the bassinet or being swaddled but we are keeping with it.

*I started putting you down for naps in your crib over the weekend and it has been the best naps you've taken.  You may be getting moved to your room sooner rather than later!

*You love being held.  So far you hate the swing and the bouncer than we have that bounces on it's own.  That leaves us with few options for putting you down.  You tolerate the bouncer that vibrates for short periods of time.  You like the rock and play best, but even then you get fussy after a bit.  I'm hoping you change your mind on the swing.

*You can still fit in your newborn clothes (reinforcing the fact that you and your sister carry half of your height and weight in your head!), but are slowly moving out of them.  We don't have that many though, so some of the smaller 0 to 3 month outfits have been in the rotation already.

*We just moved from newborn diapers to size 1 on Monday. Mostly it was because we used up all of the newborn diapers from the hospital and the two boxes I had found on clearance.  I was worried we wouldn't make it through another entire box.  The size 1's are big, but are working.

*You are very serious and don't smile much yet.  We get a smirk here or there. It appears that you have a dimple on each cheek, so I'm looking forward to how that looks you when you start to really smile.

*You have taken to using a paci, but refuse in when hungry.

*You go from a calm and chill baby to a very mad baby in a matter of seconds.  Usually this is the result of not getting food fast enough or needing a diaper changed.  You want your diaper changed immediately upon dirtying it. Or it's simply because you do not like that you were put down and not being held.

*You get smothered by your sister daily, but you are a good sport.  You seem to enjoy her. You definitely recognize her voice and will turn and watch her when you hear her near.

*Your favorite place is mommy's arms.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We had his one month check up yesterday.
He is gaining weight at the appropriate rate and looking good.

Everything checked out just as it should.  They followed up on a few other things that we had talked about/addressed at earlier appointments. Everything is going well.

Not to keep talking about poop... but they checked another dirty diaper.  His diapers aren't looking quite like I thought they should.  Plus, it was a follow up since there was still trace amounts of blood last time.  We had a few rough days about a week ago and both Michael and I were bracing ourselves for the worst.  Thankfully it seems to have passed, and in hind sight it was maybe just a 3 week growth spurt.   Regardless, the test came back "inconclusive", which they determine is a negative.  They said it is usually a strong "yes!" or a no.   This is good news, because the next step would be insanely expensive formula and there is no ready to feed for it (which would mean corn is in it).  So we are just keeping on with how things are going unless he starts to get really fussy, extremely gassy, or starts having crazy vomiting.

Happy One Month, Logan!  We love you!
