28 Weeks

How far along: 28 weeks

Size of baby: for weeks 25 to 28 the baby is the size of an eggplant

Total weight gain/loss: I wasn't home on Sunday ("official weigh in day") to use my own scale.  Plus, I wasn't eating normal for the past few days.  I decided I'm not weighing in again until next Sunday.  So... no weight to report this week. :)

Maternity clothes: maternity clothes--I had to break out the long sleeve shirts and pants for my trip to Ohio.  My feet have definitely grown though, so flip flops are about all that fit now.

Gender: It's a girl!  Olivia Grace is on her way!

Movement: Lots.  I think I'm suppose to start doing kick counts or something--my doctor hasn't said a thing, but according to what I've read it's suppose to start happening this week.

Sleep: I have a really hard time getting comfortable and sometimes it takes me a looong time to fall asleep, but once I actually fall asleep I sleep pretty good.  I don't sleep much past 8 hours (even when I can sleep in) because my aching back wakes me.

What I miss: sleeping on my stomach, not having to pee all the time!, getting off the couch easily, bending over easily :)

Cravings: Again, not really "cravings", but I got to eat a few of the foods I've been wanting or missing... Max and Erma's tortilla soup, Raising Canes Chicken (mostly for the sauce), cheesecake!!!

Symptoms: swollen ankles/hands/feet, shortness of breath (which I heard could be from lack of iron), back pain, trouble getting comfortable-even when just sitting.  I also got emotional when Michael dropped me off at the airport.  I would definitely chalk that up to pregnancy hormones.  Even though I love my husband and would miss him dearly, I wouldn't normally cry.  I started feeling sad/emotional about it as I was packing the day before I left.  I held it together while he actually said good bye, but then cried on my way to the terminal and at the terminal.

Surprises:  I PASSED my glucose test!!!  WOO HOO!!!!!  I am seriously shocked.  I don't know why.  I don't eat terrible.  I just figured that since I had a family history and was over weight and over 30 that it was going to be a given.  I never heard from the doctor, so I called yesterday to ask if "no news was good news".  The lady checked and said I did just fine.  She said the cut off was 139 (or 136, can't remember) and mine was at 123 so I was doing "just fine".  I wasn't even borderline!! I'm so happy!

Fun Purchases: nothing!  I was waiting until after my shower to see what I got.

Other: I mentioned it last week, but I am really frustrated with my doctor's office.  My doctor is sweet, but a little scatter brained it seems.  Anytime someone asks who my doctor is and I say her name I get rave reviews.  There were rave reviews on the internet, which is why I went to her in the first place.  I just feel like I'm not getting enough information or something.  Plus, some of the office staff isn't the friendliest.  There have been a few other incidents too (like not calling me to tell me my thyroid was out of whack and I needed on medication asap!).  I'm so thankful for websites like the bump, books to read, and friends and family to get information from.  If it wasn't for that, I'd be lost.  Sometimes it feels like the bump is more my doctor than my doctor is! :)  Maybe it's because I'm having a relatively easy pregnancy.  No questions or problems equals no information?!?  Or maybe it's because other people don't read and gather information so they ask a ton of questions.  I'm just always seeing phrases like " My doctor said" or "My doctor told me".  My doctor isn't telling me a darn thing!  At this point, I'm not sure I'll be going back to her for future births.  We'll see how the next 12 weeks (and the birth) play out.

Dr. News: On Wednesday I told you about my doctor's appointment.  Wednesday afternoon I got a call from the doctor saying my iron levels were low, so they needed to call in a prescription for me.  I've asked about my iron levels in the past and they were always good, so this must be new.  I am now taking some sort of supplement.  This doesn't really surprise me (like the thyroid meds).  About every other time I try to give blood, I am turned away for having iron levels that are too low.  I'll take low iron over Gestational Diabetes any day! :)

My trip to Ohio was great.  My shower was wonderful.  I was very blessed and had a great time with friends and family.  More about that later this week!

  1. Beeg-- Make sure you don't take the iron and Thyroid medicine together. The Iron blocks the thryroid meds. Love you!

  2. When the lady called to tell me that they had to call in a prescription for me, I specifically asked if it was OK to take with the thyroid medicine. She said yes?!?! Hmmm... My next appointment is in a week, so I will ask again.

  3. I had to take iron when I was pregnant with Maylin also - I was told to take it with orange juice as it helps your body absorb the iron better. But who really knows for sure - there are so many conflicting opinions on everything? :)

Glad you passed your glucose test!! I passed with Maylin, but not with Morgan. It wasn't fun! :(
