A PSA

I decided it's time for a little Public Service Announcement around here.  Hope you don't mind.  Here it is:

DON'T ASK A WOMAN WHEN SHE IS GOING TO HAVE A CHILD.  EVER.

Seriously.  I know I've joked about it on here before, but it really is an inappropriate question.  It's such a touchy subject with so many women today.  I've known many to have difficulties.  It seems it is more common these days to have a problem getting pregnant than it is to actually get pregnant naturally.

I understand not everyone has issues getting pregnant.  Personally, I've never tried to get pregnant, so I'm not necessarily in that category.  But I DO know how annoying it is to be asked (over... and over... and over... and over... and over).

Here's the deal.... Woman are either,
*not with someone they want to have a kid with and that just creates worry or guilt
*not ready to have a kid and that's just flat out annoying to be asked
*has had issues trying to get pregnant (and/or miscarried) and is sensitive about it
*can't have kids and is hurt
*doesn't want kids ever and that just makes them feel judged
*still single and can hear their own biological clock ticking.  They don't need you to remind them!!
*wanting kids but it's not the right time, and that can be hurtful or annoying

So why do we as a society feel the need to constantly ask a woman when she is going to have a child?  STOP IT!  There is no reason, under any circumstances, where that questions needs to be asked.  I'm just saying.  That's my own little PSA.  (Too bad my family won't abide by it!)

I love and appreciate that Michael puts others before himself.  He is selfless and kind.  He is always willing to help, even if it means being seriously inconvenienced.  There are few people in this world that would "give you the shirt off their back" so to speak, but he is definitely one of them.  Not only is he always willing to help or do what he can, but he doesn't keep score.  He will do what he can without expecting anything in return.  How refreshing is that in the society we live in?

Michael put some music on the i-pod for me to use while we are running.  This song was in the rotation and it's been in my head all week.

Really?

I have been out of the classroom for two years now.  Hence, I haven't really bought anything classroom related in the same amount of time.  This is what I got in the mail just this week!!!

In case you can't tell, there are NINE magazines there and some of them are there twice!  Really?  I really need that many magazines?  Don't get me wrong... I love looking through them.  I have always loved all things school/early education related.  I just don't understand why these companies feel the need to send me so many magazines.  I have more from last week... and the week before that... and some from the week before that.  It's never ending!  Anyone need to buy some bulletin board supplies? Workbooks? Back to school materials?  Just let me know!  I got you covered!! :)

List o' fun--Locker Soccer

A year ago I decided to enroll Little Man into a soccer program.  I had heard great things about Locker Soccer, so I decided to check it out.  He loooooooooved it!  We signed up for every session since.

They stretch

They run

They practice some sort of skill like dribbling, passing, shooting, heading, and more.

Then they play a game called "Sharks and Minnows"

The classes meet once a week and are 40 minutes long.  During the summer they offer week long soccer camps.  Little Man is taking two of the camps.  One was a few weeks ago and went great.  If you are in the area and looking for an activity to get your kid active, I highly suggest Locker Soccer!

Jello Poke Cake

I'm not really a cake person, but there is a cake I just can't resist.  It's called Jello Poke Cake.  I had never heard of it, or tasted it until college.  Rarely did I take desserts from the dessert buffet.  I'm not a huge sweets person and most of the desserts involved chocolate.  No thanks.  There were 3 desserts that I would get from the beloved caf--jello poke cake, lemon bars, and pumpkin bars.  Yum.

Not so long ago I was on a site looking at recipe reviews and came across my beloved cake.  I had no idea it was so basic and easy!

Here's what you'll need.

 The recipe actually calls for plain white cake, but I like to use the french vanilla one.  It's white and adds extra flavor.  Also, the recipe said not to use sugar free jello.  I have no idea why.  I can't imagine it would change things all that much, but I'm too chicken to try! :)

 Make the cake as instructed on the box.

Let the cake cool completely

Then poke holes in it.  I use a serving "fork" so that the holes are big and spread out.

  Make the jello as directed.

Then pour into holes.

Make sure to cover every hole.  You will have plenty of jello.

The entire cake will be pink

Including the bottom and sides

Let cool for a bit (an hour or two) and "frost" with cool whip

and serve!  SO GOOD!

This is a good cake to make with the kiddos as well.  I've made this with Little Man before.  Besides just the fun of cracking eggs, pouring liquids and mixing the batter, he really liked poking holes in the cake!

Update on the Zoo

I know I've talked about the zoo a couple of times on here, but I've got something new to share!  If you haven't ever checked out the show Animals on Safari, then you need to.  It's super fun.  They use a ton of different animals (mostly rescued), and put on a 25 minute show.

 It's a must see for kids, but I think even adults without kids would enjoy it.

I didn't think to take pictures until it was almost over, so I missed a lot of the good shots.  Sorry.

The show is quick moving, funny and has lots of fun animal tricks.

The shows are usually at 12, 2 and 4.  

I'm not sure about on the weekend, since I usually only go on the weekdays.

I have been to the zoo many times over the past 8 years and I have never bothered going to the show.  I don't know why I've never gone, but I want to make sure you don't make the same mistake.  CHECK IT OUT!  We've gone twice now in the past six months and I'm sure we'll be going again soon.
