Corn Maze 2010

Over the weekend we went on our yearly corn maze trip.  Two years ago we went by ourselves.  Last year, we went with our friend Laurie.  This year we went with our friends Jason and Erica.  (We seem to be adding one person a year?!? :)

We went to Lynds (which is where we went apple picking).  It was great fun!

Silly boys...
They've been friends since high school.  You don't see those kind of friendships these days!

Classic self taken photo (a little blurry)

We had no clue where we were going!

That way?

Such a cutie!

A quick self taken picture
The flash was so bright!!!

Checking the map

Still no clue where we are or where we're going...

You are suppose to find these podiums with plates on them that you can rub.  If you collect all 8 you get a prize.  We went to three podiums that had no scratch plates.  It was very sad.  FINALLY we found one to do a rub!

Something was apparently funny

We had a great time.  We have no idea how much of the maze we did and how much we left uncovered.  We only found 3 rubs, but we had a great time.  I love fall!

Update on the Zoo

I know I've talked about the zoo a couple of times on here, but I've got something new to share!  If you haven't ever checked out the show Animals on Safari, then you need to.  It's super fun.  They use a ton of different animals (mostly rescued), and put on a 25 minute show.
It's a must see for kids, but I think even adults without kids would enjoy it.

I didn't think to take pictures until it was almost over, so I missed a lot of the good shots.  Sorry.
Those ducks were moving fast!

The show is quick moving, funny and has lots of fun animal tricks.

A cat climbed the pole and went across the bridge

Pigs!

The shows are usually at 12, 2 and 4.
I'm not sure about on the weekend, since I usually only go on the weekdays.
I have been to the zoo many times over the past 8 years and I have never bothered going to the show.  I don't know why I've never gone, but I want to make sure you don't make the same mistake.  CHECK IT OUT!  We've gone twice now in the past six months and I'm sure we'll be going again soon.

Polar Bears!

Michael and I decided to go to the zoo yesterday.  I have been to the zoo more in the last two years than all the previous 28 years combined.  I'm not even exaggerating either!  Michael hadn't been in a while, and we get in free with my work membership.  Even though I have been to the zoo a lot, I hadn't seen the new polar bear exhibit that opened a week and a half ago.  Plus, it's nice to experience it and share it all with my husband and not always just a 4 year old!  It turned out to be the perfect weather for it too.  It was a great date afternoon.

Here's some of what we saw.

THE POLAR BEAR AREA!!!!!
It's pretty cool.  There are outside areas and under water areas.

Well, I took about 50 more pictures before my camera died (including lots more of the polar bears), but this post is getting long enough.  Hope you enjoyed them!  I'm taking Little Man to see the polar bears for the first time this Friday and I can't wait.  He's going to love it!

Oh the places we will go...

Alright, well I told you that I'd share some fun places for you to take your kids.  Some of the ideas I have are local, and some are going to be able to be used by all.

Today my suggestion is to go to the zoo.  Ok, I know you are probably saying, "duh Bethany, what parent doesn't know to go to the zoo.  Kind of obvious".  Yes.  You are right.  But here is my tip that you may not know.  Go when it's cooler outside.  A lot of people hit up the zoo in the summer.  A) Because kids are out of school and sometimes moms or dads take time off then.  B) it's a "nice" day to be out. C) there are a lot of days in the summer and the kids need something to do OR D) That seems like the obvious time to go.  I'm telling you that you should go in the spring or fall.  I prefer the fall.  It's the best.

Here's why:  It's comfortable outside.  (i.e. no ones skin is sweating right off)  It's pretty with all the fall leaves.  There are hardly any crowds because people don't think of going.  But best of all--the animals like it best then too.  The animals are more active and out when the weather is cooler.  Which, obviously, makes a trip to the zoo so much more enjoyable.

Little Man and I went just last week.  Here is some of what we saw...

Lots of elephants--Little Man's favorite!  These are the African elephants.
(Yes, his hair is that long.  No, there is nothing you can say to me about it that I haven't already heard.)

On the other side of the building were the Asian elephants.  Look at the little baby.  He's actually almost a year old, but he's still so darn cute.  Plus, we got to hear the elephants make noises I've never heard before!

Look how close the tiger was..... LOVE IT!

We heard the Lion roar TWICE!

The bears were out and playful as well.  (Usually they are sleeping!)

Little Man loved the komodo dragon.  (yuck!)
It liked Little Man too! :)

It was the perfect zoo day.  Next time you have a good fall day with nothing to do... hit up your local zoo!
