Remember that I wrote Similac? Well, they sent me two small cans of the powder Alimentum. I haven't decided what I'm going to do with it yet. Either try to trade it, or mix it with the Ready to Feed and see if she'll tolerate it. It says "SAMPLE" on it, so I can't do much else with it. They also sent me $7 worth of coupons. While I appreciate that, $7 is not going to put much of a dent in the $270 it is going to cost a month.
Before Olivia was even born, all of the companies were sending me coupons, formula "checks", and samples. Of course, I didn't need them then. I was planning on breastfeeding for much longer than actually occurred. I wish I would have saved them. Some of them still might have been good! I still get some random ones in the mail, but not as many as I feel I could. I went online to Similac, Enfamil and Gerber and signed up for their programs. I will use anything I can that Similac sends me. I can trade the Enfamil and Gerber on the bump for Similac coupons and checks. I have already done this once. I can use all the coupons and checks I can get, so trading will help greatly. If you are a mom that breastfeeds, I would love if you could send me any coupons or formula checks you get. I know from experience that you get a ton in the mail without even asking. If you could sign up on the websites to get more, that would even be better!! I can also trade box tops, and points from Huggies or Pampers. Although, if you are using those brands of diapers, you are probably using the rewards program for yourself.
This little advertisement was in an email I received from Babies R Us. I saw FREE Similac and paid attention. You see that purple bottle? That is the Similac Alimentum Ready to Feed--what we use. It says buy 9 cases get the 10th case free. That sounded wonderful. One case is 6 bottles and we use a bottle a day. A free case every two months (or so) would be awesome.
So I clicked on the "learn more" link. Don't you know that EVERY OTHER Similac Ready to Feed is included EXCEPT the Alimentum. You know-- the one in the freaking picture!?!?!!! Yeah. I was annoyed. Once again, the most expensive formula is the one excluded from the deal.
So what did I do? I wrote Babies R Us. I (politely) said that I didn't appreciate the false advertisement. Nor did I like that they always exclude the Alimentum from their deals. I asked why that was. Never in my life have I written a company about anything. Now, I have written Similac and Babies R Us. I imagine this may only be the beginning. :) I got a response back. It wasn't even worth the time they put into writing me. It basically said sorry for the inconvenience and my email has been passed on. No offer for a coupon. No explanation why the Alimentum was excluded. No answer to my question about why the expensive formulas are always left out. (Although, like I said previously--I'm pretty sure it has to do with insurance paying. You only use that formula if your child has a medical reason to do so. Therefore, most plans will cover it.)
I'm doing what I can to get the most for my money. I have signed up for every formula and diaper company that I can think of. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions that I have missed?

Nursery, Part 4
The nursery is done and ready.
We've only added a few things.
I was on the hunt for a cute picture frame for the small shelf. I had in mind what I wanted, but either couldn't find it or would find something that was way overpriced. I didn't want a plain old frame. I wanted something crafty looking...maybe something that said "Bless this child" or something. I didn't want anything that was specifically baby. I wanted it to be able to grow with her. Well, that mission failed.
But....... I found this
Perfect!
I also ordered this because I love Willow Tree
When my friend Laurie stayed with us, we realized that we needed a clock in there for when the room is used as a guest room. Both Michael and I had alarm clocks, so for a while we just put Michael's in there. I was roaming the aisles of Hobby Lobby (looking for a frame) and found this
The whole dresser
We also used a gift card to buy a hamper. I had registered for one. I went to buy it and it was gone. I wanted a basket looking one, but I couldn't find what I wanted. I ended up going with this.
Originally I thought these kind were gross. You put puked, pooped and peed on clothes in there. Why would you use cloth? Then I found out it had a net in it. That made me feel a little better.
Ready and waiting

Happy Father's Day!
Besides Michael, I don't think there are too many men hanging out here on my blog. Just in case there is--Happy Father's Day!
I got Michael a gift for Father's Day. It was in the works for months. Before we left Columbus in December I thought it would be a good idea to stock up on some Ohio State baby clothes. The only problem was I didn't know if we were having a girl or a boy. The girl stuff was super cute. The boy stuff was pretty cute as well. The gender neutral stuff was just "eh". I decided to wait.
So when I went back to Ohio for my shower, my sister and I hit the mall. One of my first stops was the Buckeye store to get Michael's gift. The girl stuff was SO cute that I couldn't decide... so I got two.
Even though we don't have an "outside" baby yet, Michael is already a good daddy and I know he will get even better once Olivia arrives. :)
P.S. Good thing it wasn't a boy. What would we do with a sweater vest onesie now? :)

36 Weeks
How far along: 36 weeks
Size of baby: for weeks 33 to 36 (month 8) the baby is the size of a honeydew
As of Tuesday the 31st she was 6 pounds, 6 ounces
I'm guessing she's at least 7 pounds by now... maybe even 7 and a half pounds.
Total weight gain/loss: +30
Gender: It's a girl! Olivia Grace is on her way!
Movement: She's making big movements daily. Michael and Olivia have conversations. She won't be moving at all and he will talk to my belly. Suddenly she will kick or move (right where his head is). He'll talk. She'll kick or move. If he sits quiet for a bit, she stays still. It's pretty cute. Most times when Michael feels movement he says "Whoa!" because it's always pretty big and strong.
Sleep: My sleep wasn't the best this week. I'll be tired and go to bed and then lay there for a long time...well, besides getting up every half hour to pee. For whatever reason, when I first go to bed, I end up getting up a ton in the first two hours. I'm back to napping every day when Little Man does. I'm wondering if that's why I can't sleep at night, but I just can't help it. I'm so tired during the day. Sometimes I sleep during school time too. I guess my body is just preparing me for when she's here. :)
What I miss: being comfortable... Everything is much harder to do now. I just recently started having trouble getting in my car. It feels like such a chore!
Cravings: watermelon, jello, dessert (any kind really)
Symptoms: swelling!!!
I bought two pair of flip flops in a bigger size and even they get snug when the swelling goes up. I have a feeling the swelling is here to stay. I'm hoping that's what's up with the weight gain too. I've read a lot of places that if you are gaining that much at the end (I've been gaining a pound and a half a week for about a month now), that it's most likely water weight. Hopefully that's the case, because it will be easier to get off.
Fun Purchases: We ordered a few things for our newborn picture session. I also ordered more bows from etsy. I've really been wanting something monogrammed, but have yet to find what it is I want. Also, I bought this bag.
I'll probably get another bag at one point, but I'm just not sure what or when.
Surprises: I was surprisingly pleased that my blood pressure wasn't out of control at my appointment. I was expecting it to be high and to be put on strict bed rest.
What I'm looking forward to: Obviously I'm looking forward to meeting my baby girl. Besides that, I'm really excited about our newborn picture session. I can't wait!

Yesterday's Doctor's appointment
I know you've all be on the edge of your seat waiting to hear about yesterdays doctor's appointment! :) The good thing is, I was not put on bed rest. I just have to keep doing what I've been doing--no sodium, drink lots of water, and put my feet up as much as possible.
Here's the scoop:
- My blood pressure was 138/86. Just so you don't have to scroll through old posts to see what that means... the top number went down (from 144 last time), but is still considered high for me. The bottom number went up (from 80). I recently found out that the bottom number is more of a concern than the top number and that if it goes over 100 that is a serious danger zone!
- I had to lay on my left side again. The nurse came back in about 10 minutes and it was 107/72 (I told you I have low blood pressure normally!)
- The nurse practitioner said that as long as it goes down when I lay on my left side (and I don't get any other symptoms like headaches that don't go away or blurry vision), then we are in the clear. She said it becomes a concern when I lay on my side and it doesn't go down.
- No protein in my urine, so that's good!
- I am measuring at 40 weeks. I am 35 1/2 weeks, so I stayed at 4 1/2 weeks ahead.
- Olivia's heart rate was in the 150's, which is good.
- I was tested for Group B Strep and will find out if I have that in a few days (which, for those of you who aren't familiar or haven't had kids recently, is very common for the mom to have--it just means that you are put on antibiotics during labor)
- I had my first internal exam. First she said I wasn't dilated at all, but then she said maybe a fingertip. My cervix is still thick and long, but starting to soften. She said I might be about 50% effaced. Olivia is still high. I didn't think she had dropped yet.

Diaper Bag Dilemma
I told you a while back that I found this diaper bag at Burlington Coat Factory for cheap.
I like it, but I never intended for it to be my main diaper bag.
Mostly I got it because it was cheap and cute and I thought it would be a good back up. I like to change out my purses, so I figure I'd like to change out my diaper bag every once in a while too.
I decided that I would go with this one
It got great reviews... it's adorable... it will match my stroller and car seat... and it was much more affordable than the Petunia Pickle Bottom bag that I really wanted. I ordered it off of Amazon a while ago. It's ship date was to be June 3rd through the 24th or something crazy like that. I just got an email from Amazon that the order was canceled. Apparently vendors only have 30 days to ship the item or it gets canceled. I am so bummed. It's out of stock now, so I can't just go and order it from somewhere else.
A friend told me that I will want a backpack type diaper bag. Timi and Leslie just came out with this.
I don't love it as much as the other one, but it's still cute. Is a backpack version necessary?
It's a convertible one, so I think I could use it in a variety of ways.
I'm also still considering a Vera Bradley bag. I've heard lots of good reviews for them too.
They also have a backpack
Help me decide!

35 Weeks
No need to adjust your computer screen. No, I'm not sick. It was just a lazy day with no make up. I didn't feel like doing my hair either. So, this is what you get... I'm looking pretty stinkin' big, huh?
How far along: 35 weeks
How far along: 35 weeks
Size of baby: for weeks 33 to 36 (month 8) the baby is the size of a honeydew
As of Tuesday the 31st she was 6 pounds, 6 ounces
Total weight gain/loss: +28.6
Gender: It's a girl! Olivia Grace is on her way!
Movement: I've felt her much more this week--mostly because I'm laying around doing nothing. When you are on the move, you are basically rocking the baby to sleep. Since I am not on the move, she has been awake much more.
Sleep: I had a really good week of sleep. I slept in most days and even took a few naps.
What I miss: being comfortable... Yep, I'm at that stage
Cravings: sweets, fruit
Symptoms: just a little cramping and a few headaches, other than that it's been a good week
Fun Purchases: Even though I was on bed rest we went out and did a few things (not too much). Tuesday morning after my doctor's appointment we went and did a big grocery shop. I spent the day before planning out what we would need. Luckily it went rather quick since I was organized. Then Wednesday morning we headed to Costco. We stocked up on snacks, toilet paper, paper towels, Clorox wipes, and a few other goodies we found along the way. Even though these aren't necessarily "fun" purchases, it makes me happy because I feel more prepared now. I guess it's my way of nesting.
Surprises: How boring bed rest is! I didn't really have plans for my vacation... I'm doing what I thought I would (read, relax, watch TV, sleep in). Only bed rest makes you feel more imprisoned. I can't stand and cook like I wanted to, or run to the store without feeling like I have limited time. I'm hoping that I can avoid bed rest the rest of this pregnancy!
Best Moment this week: not having to get up early and go to work... spending more time with Michael because I was home
Other: The breastfeeding class was just alright. I'm not sure I learned a ton that I didn't already know. I guess it was a good refresher coarse. I'm hoping things go well. Luckily, there is a lactation consultant that is on call at all times. Even if I leave the hospital and need more help, it's free to go back in for an appointment. That is comforting to me.

Nursery Birdhouse
This pesky birdhouse and has been haunting me for months now! Remember that I mentioned (when picking the bedding) that I thought birdhouses or birdcages would be a great way to decorate?! Since I have pom poms hanging from the ceiling, and there isn't much other space for decorating, I skipped out on the birdcages. I did have a small space for a very small birdhouse. I knew JoAnn's sold them for a dollar. However, I avoided buying it for about a month and a half--mostly because the thought overwhelmed me.
Finally, I bought it...a month ago. And then...it sat. I've mentioned that being pregnant has zapped my creative juices. Plus, for whatever reason I was putting pressure on myself to turn this one dollar birdhouse into a million dollar masterpiece. I decided it was time to get over it. The birdhouse needed decorating and I needed to get on it before I had no time left.

Plus, for whatever reason I was putting pressure on myself to turn this one dollar birdhouse into a million dollar masterpiece. I decided it was time to get over it. The birdhouse needed decorating and I needed to get on it before I had no time left.
What the birdhouse looked like before I started...
Do you see it haunting me? It's saying "This better be good. It's for your daughter's room!" Yep. It's mocking me. Agh!! The pressure!
I decided to just use supplies I had. After all, roaming the aisles of a craft store was not in the cards for me this week. I couldn't decide if I wanted to just paint the thing and keep it simple, or if I wanted to bling it out (like the "O"), or if I wanted to use scrapbook paper to cover it. I decided to try to keep it simple, but use both paint and scrapbook paper. I had Michael help me pick out the paper we would use. I was given some really cute paper at my shower (from my "adopted" mom Kathi), so we had so many good choices to choose from.
First, I painted the house part green. I included the paint bottle in the picture so you can see what I used. I think it was leftover from wedding day crafts.
Next, I painted the trim white
Then I used spray adhesive and glued on the paper
It's actually a bright green color and not yellow like it looks
I decided to use buttons instead of bling.
There was blue in the paper. I debated on whether or not to use the blue because there was no other blue in the room. I don't necessarily want everything matchy matchy, which is why I added the blue and the yellow.
Next, I added her name with a paint pen. The pink details were added with a small paintbrush.
On the shelf
Cute, huh?
So it's not a million dollar masterpiece, but it's still nice.
I'm relieved just to have it done with. Now, all I need is a picture frame for the top shelf.

Update from Doctor's Appointment
Well, it's official... I will NOT be having a JULY baby, but rather a JUNE baby.
When I got to the doctor's office, I was weighed and gave a urine sample as always. Then the nurse came in and took my blood pressure. It was 144/80! Not good. Last time it was 130/80 and that was considered "border line". She had me lay down and said she'd be back. Turns out she forgot about me while eating her snack (I swear my doctor's office is a mess!). It was probably 10 or 15 minutes later when she came back. That time my blood pressure was 100/72. Much better! She said that there was no protein in my urine, which is a sign of preeclampsia. That was a good thing. She said I might have to do some 24 pee test. You put some cup thing on your toilet and catch your pee every time and save it in a jug. Then you bring the jug in the next day. Yeah, that didn't sound like fun.
Luckily when my doctor came in she said I would not have to do that. She decided to have a preeclampsia blood draw done instead. She asked how much I could lay around and rest while doing my job. I told her that I have my feet up a lot since Little Man is at school for 3 hours and naps for 2. Plus I put them up when he is playing. I told her that I would be on vacation this next week and she said I had to lay around the whole time. She apologized for ruining any plans but said that I basically could not do anything. Great. I'm so glad I got most of my shopping done! The one thing I really wanted to do was cook meals to freeze. Michael offered to do it (with my supervising from the couch), so that may end up being our plan b. I am not officially on full blown bed rest, but she said it could come to that. I'm hoping not just because of my job. I know bed rest is boring, but I wouldn't care as much except I would be putting another family out. We'll see.
Then she measured me and I measured 38 cm. I said, "38?!?!?!" She didn't seem too concerned at first. I don't think she realized that I am only 33 1/2 weeks!! She looked at the calendar and said, "Oh". I am now going in on Tuesday for an ultrasound to check the size of the baby and also to make sure all of my fluid levels are still ok.
So just to recap--2 appointments ago I was measuring a half a week ahead. 1 appointment ago I was measuring 2 1/2 weeks ahead and this time I was measuring 4 1/2 weeks. I am gaining 2 extra weeks every appointment!! What the heck? I haven't gained that much weight, so it must be all baby. I don't feel huge. I don't even feel like I look 38 weeks. Nana and Papa arrived the other day and the first thing Nana said was "You still don't look that big". I'm taking that statement to the bank! :)
My doctor looked at the calendar again and said we are scheduling an induction for June 28th. She said they don't normally do elective inductions (for size, just because it could be wrong-and big baby doesn't mean fully developed baby), but she doesn't think my blood pressure issues are going anywhere. She is labeling it a hypertension induction. Of course, there is still a chance that I could go even before then if there was some blood pressure emergency. By the way, my starting blood pressure was 108/70 something.
So I go in on Tuesday for the ultrasound. Then I go back to the doctor on June 8th for my next appointment.

33 Weeks
Size of baby: for weeks 33 to 36 (month 8) the baby is the size of a honeydew
Average size is 17.2-18.7 inches and between 4.2 and 5.8 pounds!!
Total weight gain/loss: +25.6
Maternity clothes: Yep, every day! I even have maternity pajamas now.
Gender: It's a girl! Olivia Grace is on her way!
Movement: It goes in phases. Some days I worry that I haven't felt her enough, but then the next day she will be on the move nonstop. There probably isn't much room left, which I am guessing is why the movements have slowed down some. Plus, some days I am busier than others and I don't feel her when I am on the move.
Sleep: Surprisingly, it hasn't been terrible. Sleeping at Little Man's house for half the week actually allowed me to get more sleep than I usually do. Unfortunately, I am waking up every hour and a half to pee. It's a little insane. I know. Part of it is probably being in the third trimester, but the other part is that I am having to drink so much water in order to keep the swelling down. Thankfully I can always go back to sleep quickly. The worst part is every time I lay down (day or night), I have some sort of restless leg syndrome.
What I miss: SODA!
Cravings: sweets, fruit, McDonald's (which I've been avoiding because of the sodium)
Symptoms: swelling, restless leg syndrome, some fatigue, stretch marks :(, having to pee all the time--or feeling like I have to even when I don't. She must be right on my bladder. Oh, and heartburn/acid reflux has returned in full force. It use to be just certain foods would trigger it. Now it's basically every afternoon and every night in the middle of the night. It doesn't matter what I eat, when I eat it, how fast or slow I eat it. It just comes. The book says it's common to get worse now because my stomach has no room.
Fun Purchases: I was able to buy almost everything off of my "lists". There are just a few things left for me to get.
Surprises: hmm... not too many this week
Best Moment this week: checking items off my list, date night/day with Michael
Milestones: I am starting my 8th month!!!
Things I am looking forward to: Honestly, I'm looking forward to my doctor's appointment on Wednesday. I want to know if things have changed any. Since the last measurement was taken by the nurse practitioner, and it's not an exact science, I'm wondering if I will still be measuring as big... or bigger... or more back to normal once my doctor measures.
I'm also looking forward to a week and a half off of work!!!!

Onesie Stickers
Look what I got...
Closer up
They are a little smaller than some of the other onesie stickers I've seen, but I love them.

Lists, Lists, Lists
There are lists running through my head. I was already starting to feel slightly anxious about my "to do" list, but now it's getting even more real. My due date is 8 weeks from now, but there is potential that she could be here in 6! Not only that, but if my blood pressure doesn't get in check (which I'm believing it will!), then there is potential for bed rest. We are reaching the end!!! AGH! :)
First, is my list of books that I want to read. I have been given a ridiculous amount of books. I don't plan on reading them all, but there are some I'd like to get to. I've also bought some books. I have prioritized and realize that I really only need to read the breastfeeding and sleeping books before Olivia comes. I started reading earlier on in the pregnancy, but I felt like I wasn't retaining the knowledge and that when she got here I'd have forgotten it all anyway. Plus, everyone tells you how you should be reading for fun and going to the movies and sleeping--enjoying your time. Well now I feel like I need to get on with the reading, but it still feels overwhelming to me.
Second, is my hospital bag. I have been collecting information and making a list from very early on. Any time someone posts a "hospital bag" question on the message boards I pay attention. I still need to collect some things for it. I wasn't planning on packing it until around week 35, but now I feel like I have to have to have things collected and ready to pack before hand.... just in case I am put on bed rest. (My shopping is already limited because of my swelling feet.) I plan on posting a list soon and all you veteran moms can tell me what I really need and what I don't. There seems to be varying views out there. Some people are minimalists and some pack everything but the kitchen sink. I would like to be somewhere in the middle. I tend to lean toward the side of being over prepared than under.
Third, is my "stock piling" list. Someone asked on the message boards once "what types of things are you stock piling". Most people said things like diapers or formula. A couple people said they were stock piling household items. I would have never thought of this, but it makes sense. Not that I am going to have a baby and come out handicapped. I know that I can run to the store or send Michael. The idea was that in the first month (or longer) it is nice to not have to worry about running out of toilet paper, paper towels, tissues, etc. I think I especially like this idea because we are in a new place. It will all be up to Michael, and at this point he's only planning on taking off a week or so. Sure, we'll have visitors, but they aren't from here. They don't know the area. It will just be easier to have things on hand. So far we have plenty of toothpaste, deodorant, and hand soap. :) We plan to go to Costco to stock up on things like kleenex, Clorox wipes, toilet paper, and paper towels. Anything else we should stock up on? We have paper plates too. I'm considering using these at first so no one has to deal with dishes.
Fourth, is a list of things I will need for after the birth. You know--all the unpleasant things like pads and stool softeners and witch hazel. Oooh, fun! This list also includes items like nursing bras and nursing tanks, lots of bottled water and easy snacks (for breastfeeding), and tylenol. Missing anything?
Fifth, finish up any last minute nursery things and purchase any baby items still needed (not much).
Lastly, is a list of meals that can be frozen. Since we are new to the area, I'm not exactly sure how many people will be showing up at my door with home cooked meals. I know in Ohio people would do that, but I am not going to count on it here. We've made friends, but it's all still so new. I wouldn't expect anyone who has only known me for a few months to cook me a meal. I thought of going to one of those places that you can make meals ahead of time (Dream Dinners, Super Suppers), but the only one in our area didn't thrill me. There was still a lot of prep work that needed to be done at home at the time of cooking the meal. I want to be able to pull something out of the freezer and heat it up. I have off a week at the end of the month, so I plan to do a lot of cooking and freezing then. Anyone have any good recipes they'd like to share? I have a few in mind. I'd like to get a fair amount of meals done and with some variety too.
I love lists. I enjoy checking things off my list. For whatever reason, it feels different this time. I have these lists. I keep reviewing my lists. I look at them often. Yet nothing is getting checked off. I'm not usually the procrastinating type. Hopefully I'll be able to tackle most of this on the week and a half that I am off from work. Did you all go through the same thing?

32 Weeks
Size of baby: for weeks 29 to 32 the baby is the size of a squash
Average size is 15.2-16.7 inches and between 2.5 to 3.8 pounds
Finally, the last week as a squash!!!
Total weight gain/loss: +24
Maternity clothes: yep... every day
Gender: It's a girl! Olivia Grace is on her way!
Movement: She still has her dance parties. She doesn't move as much throughout the day, but her movements are bigger and stronger. Just when I think "I haven't felt her in a while", she'll kick. It's funny too, because there will be nothing for a really long time and then Michael will text me from work and she will inevitably start kicking. I told him she knows and she's trying to say hi. She's already a daddy's girl.
Sleep: It hasn't been too bad this week. I've been really tired during the day, so I've been sleeping during preschool time and nap time. I'm not sure if it's thyroid/iron thing, a third trimester thing, or just me not getting enough sleep because of Michael's schedule. My blood was not drawn at my doctor's appointment like it should have been. I called to mention it and ask if I should come in. The nurse said no, that waiting two weeks will be fine. At this point, I trust little that my doctor's office says. I decided to go ahead and split up when I take the thyroid and iron medications. I've only done it for a few days, but I'm hoping it will help.
What I miss: bending over, not having shortness of breath
Cravings: sweets, fruit--I'm glad the good stuff is coming into season
Symptoms: At this point the big one is swelling. I am constantly having to put my feet up. I am chugging water like nobodies business, hoping that will help. Plus, for the past few weeks I have been having bouts of restless leg syndrome, which seems to be getting worse/more frequent. I could do without that.
Fun Purchases: Nothing that I can think of. I've been searching for a new bra for the past two weeks with little success (the problem being my size). They say not to buy a nursing bra until week 36 and then after your milk comes in you'll have to buy another one anyway. I'm going to try to make it a few more weeks and then just buy a nursing one for the hospital/first few days. I might as well try to kill two birds with one stone at this point.
Surprises: my doctor's visit was a bit of a surprise
First meal: I see on the bump all the time people asking what will be your first meal after birth. Common answers are things that have not been allowed--like champagne and sushi. I always kind of laughed it off and figured I'd eat whatever the hospital was going to bring me. I've heard they are really accommodating for the mom. Then, this week, after soda was taken away I changed my mind. I didn't drink soda every day, but it was a nice treat every once in a while. Plus, I haven't had any Diet Coke this whole pregnancy because of the artificial sweeteners. I told Michael I do have a "first meal" request. I want a large Diet Coke from McDonald's (because it's the best, and if you are a diet coke drinker you will agree) and a big juicy hot dog (probably from Sonic since it is the most convenient.) Mmmmm... I can't wait! :)

Info from my Doctor's appointment
Well, yesterday's doctor's appointment wasn't all that great. It started out with the normal urine sample and weight check. Nothing was said about either of those. (Although, I don't know how quickly the urine is tested. I could get a phone call today if there was a problem.)
From there I always go into the room and have my blood pressure taken. She took it and said it was 130/80. It sounded high to me, so I asked if it was alright and she said it was "border line". In case you aren't aware, when you are pregnant it's not the actual number that is the issue. They base any problems on your personal blood pressure history. So if your numbers are up 30 points from your normal/starting blood pressure, then there could be cause for concern. I'm not sure what my starting/normal blood pressure is, but I know it's always been good (in the lower range). This caused me a little concern.
My doctor was out for whatever reason, so I saw the nurse practitioner. When she came in we were talking about other unfriendly issues that have crept up in the last week. (Not to be discussed on the internet! :) She took the babies heart beat and said she sounded good. Then she measured me. She said, "How many weeks along are you?" Right then I knew it wasn't good. I said that I was 31 and a half weeks. She then told me that I was measuring big. This has been my fear all along! She said not to freak out about it. It doesn't mean I'm having a 12 pound baby. She said it could have to do with how the baby is positioned. She said we'd go ahead and schedule an ultrasound for the next visit. Michael had some concerns since we've had 5 now, so she said we were fine to wait. If I come in next time and am still measuring big, then we will for sure have to order an ultrasound. Right now I am measuring at 34 weeks. That is TWO AND A HALF weeks early. Two weeks ago I was only measuring a half a week early, which is considered normal. Holy cow that's a big jump! I told her that I was worried because both Michael and I were almost 9 pound babies. She said, "Oh... well, you know that does factor in to this." Yes, yes I know. Thank you.
She then went into talking about my blood pressure. She said she could see my feet were swollen. She asked other questions, like have I been getting headaches. I just started to get them this week. She said right now it is not cause for huge concern. I have to watch my salt intake, stop drinking soda, drink lots of water (which I already do), and make sure to put my feet up more. Then she gave me a few things to look out for and said if any of those happen to call them right away. She said if I come back in two weeks and these things haven't helped, or it's gotten worse, then we may have a problem.
I asked about being induced if the baby remains big or keeps growing at a rapid rate. She said the earliest they induce (for a big baby) is 38 weeks. Just because you have a big baby doesn't mean you have a fully developed baby. They normally do c-sections and inductions on Tuesdays, so if I am induced at 38 weeks, I would go in June 28th.
She then had me lay on my left side for a little while and have my blood pressure checked again. It was down to 122/70.
So while she repeated that at this point I should not worry, I am (of course) worrying. I don't want preeclampsia or a 10 pound baby. I am going to do my best to follow the instructions given and I guess we'll find out in 2 weeks what the update is. My next appointment is Wednesday the 25th.

31 Weeks
Size of baby: for weeks 29 to 32 the baby is the size of a squash
Average size is 15.2-16.7 inches and between 2.5 to 3.8 pounds
Total weight gain/loss: +22.4
Maternity clothes: That is all I wear now. One day I tried wearing an old pair of sweatpants to work. As soon as I dropped Little Man off at preschool, I went home and took them off. They were so uncomfortable on my belly. Lesson learned!
Gender: It's a girl! Olivia Grace is on her way!
Movement: I feel like her movement has decreased some this week. Don't get me wrong--she still has her midnight dance parties. One night Michael had his arm around me and could feel her moving around all the way from his hand (which was on my left side) to his arm (which was across the middle and my right). He just kept laughing or saying things like "Man!" or "Whoa!" or "Wow!'. Yeah. That's happening inside me!!! But during the day she has slowed down some. I actually got worried one day, so I did a kick count. I ate dinner, drank a cold glass of water, waited a half hour and then started counting. She surpassed the ten kicks in an hour requirement, so I felt much better. It's probably just that she is starting to run out of room. It just threw me a little, because for the few weeks before this she has been on the move all day every day.
Sleep: It's been better! :/
What I miss: The freedom to bend over and pick something up! I can still physically bend over, but it hurts my belly so I try not to.
Cravings: sweets, fruit--I'm glad the good stuff is coming into season
Cravings: sweets, fruit--I'm glad the good stuff is coming into season
Symptoms: I think I've started nesting. I decided one day that Michael's closet needed to be reorganized. I hardly even go in there, but it was bothering me that I knew it looked like a mess. We did that, and then that turned into an all out house cleaning. I am also feeling the need to collect things I need for my hospital bag or items after birth. This is causing me some anxiety. There are so many unknowns--what size I'll need in nursing bras/tanks, etc.
Fun Purchases: I purchased chap stick and slippers for said hospital bag. I also bought the Llama Llama books that are at Kohl's for $5 this month. I love them and didn't have them, so I got them! :)
Surprises: There have been multiple incidents where pregnant woman have been around and I feel they are MUCH bigger than me. Then I find out they are either due after me or at the same time as me. I always figured I would gain all over, and I think I have to some degree. I'm just amazed at how I look compared to others I guess. To me, I still don't feel huge. Don't get me wrong (as has been done from this blog before), I am NOT wishing to be huge. I just always assumed with my family history (me, my mom, my grandma), that I would gain a ton and be very large. I think I just expected in my head to be bigger at this point than I am now. One lady at our life group is due two whole months after me and her belly looks big to me. Of course, it's her second so that could have something to do with it. We were sitting at the pediatricians office and this one lady looked to me like she was due within the next few weeks or so. Then I heard her tell someone she's due July 11th. That's the day after me. I turned to Michael and said, "Do I look like that?" He said, "Everyone is different'. I said, "I know that, but do I look like that?" He said no, he didn't think I looked that big. I just wanted to make sure that I was seeing myself as I really looked. I'm sure in about five weeks I will be telling you all that I feel like a house! :)
Best Moment this week: We've had a lot of good moments this week!
1. Choosing a pediatrician. Seriously. It's a huge relief to check that off my list.
2. Choosing a newborn photographer. I had one that I fell in love with months ago. She was pretty expensive (like most newborn photographers are), but I loved her style, props, ideas, etc. I emailed her about two weeks ago and she said she will be traveling and not shooting at all for the whole month of July. Honestly, I was heart broken. I was SO set on her. So that led me to looking and looking for a plan B. There are a lot of photographers in our area, but I find the black and white pictures with a naked newborn on a plain blanket to be boring. I wanted one that used backdrops and props and color. Those type are much harder to find. I finally found one that I liked and we are on the books! YAY! (and yay to my husband for agreeing to this... he thinks the cost is a little outrageous, but is willing to do it for me! :)
3. Having the 3D/4D ultrasound and getting to see Olivia again. Also, getting the reassurance that she is still doing just fine.
Milestones: 9 weeks to go! Um... hello! That's single digits!!!
We spent the weekend taking the child birthing class at our hospital. Luckily, it's free. I've heard some hospitals make you pay. The class was from 9 to 3 both Saturday and Sunday. A lot of what was taught I already knew, but some of it was new. Of course, you can have a ton of information, but it's nothing like going through it. I realize that. Michael and I both walked away with the same feeling. It wasn't life changing or super enlightening, but we are still glad we went ahead and took the class. If nothing else, it was a refresher coarse on some of the things we've already read or heard about.
We will be taking the breastfeeding class on June 4th. That is the one I'm looking forward to. I'm hoping to gain lots of information. I am committed to breastfeeding at least for the first sixth months (because of the incredible benefits for both me and the baby). It is the one thing I'm most worried about. I know it will not be easy, so any help I can get I will take.
We are also taking a baby care class on June 11th. Originally I didn't sign us up for this, but then I thought we better. We are more doing it for Michael since he has no first hand experience with infants. While I have a lot of kid knowledge, have changed hundreds of diapers, given bottles, etc., I have never been in charge of a brand new baby. Even though I have more confidence in this area than Michael, it will be good for both of us. This class is going to teach things like diaper changing, burping, soothing techniques, bathing, and more.

3D/4D Ultrasound
Honestly, I have never been much of a fan of the 3D/4D ultrasounds. I tend to think they all look like aliens. Some of them are down right creepy if you ask me. We have had many many friends rave about them and tell us that it is a must. I was never really all that convinced.
Tina Fey was on Conan recently and here's what she had to say about it...
(Sorry about the commercial before the clip. Also, I couldn't find a smaller version, so part of the picture is cut off. It's just Conan. You don't need to see him anyway! :)
Funny, huh? Well, from the very beginning Michael has talked about wanting to get one. How can I stand in the way of a father wanting to see his little girl?! :) Actually, after the last ultrasound and seeing that it looked like we could pick out a few features, I was sort of looking forward to it. I went into it hoping that when it's your own child it doesn't look as creepy.
The pictures weren't as creepy as some I've seen. The video was a little creepy to me... even though it was my daughter. It's just the nature of the ultrasound. Like Tina said, you aren't meant to see in there yet. It's not cooked! :)

Anyway, we went yesterday. Here are the highlights:
The tech commented on her cheeks almost right away. I said she comes by them honestly. :)
Like with every other ultrasound we've had, her hand was up by her face. She would not move it for anything! She wasn't sucking on her thumb or fingers. She just liked to have her face covered. I said that she was going to be "shy" like Michael. He said he was just thinking the same thing.
Her foot is up near her face too. She is literally folded in half.
This picture cracks me up! On the video you can see that she is yawning, but in this photo it looks to me like she is in shock or saying something like "Oh my!".
Such a scowl! It's amazing to me the facial expressions they can have at this point.
Michael is convinced she has my nose.
We got a smile! It may be my smile! Sometimes when I smile, for whatever reason, the edges of my mouth turn down. I never really noticed it until I married Michael. He pointed it out. He thinks it's funny. He calls it my "frown smile". He's also the one that noticed in this picture that Olivia has a frown smile. Crack me up!
We still think she has Michael's chin.
This is the second time we've got a cool foot picture. The tech said her foot is right up against me and anytime I am feeling kicks on the right side it is definitely her feet. (That after I told her what the mean ultrasound lady at my doctor's office said.) I'm wondering if we will ever get to make out that it's a foot from the outside. I think the way she has it now, it could be a possibility.
Sticking her tongue out a little? Her heart rate was 140 beats per minute, which is good.
The tech said everything looked good. She said my fluid level were good, the baby looked great, and that she was definitely facing down. She said she will most likely not turn at this point. She said that she could, but it would be a lot of work for her.

This the last time we'll be seeing her. The next time will be in 9(ish) weeks when she is on the outside!
