Ehh...

Man, you guys don't miss a beat.  Any time I skip a day of blogging I get at least one text, usually more... sometimes an email or even a call.  I'm so happy you are all so enthralled in my life.  It's good to know people are reading. :)

The truth is I had a very rough week at work that was pushed to new limits on Thursday.  So much so that when I got home the last thing I wanted to do was write a blog.  The drama continued yesterday.  Hence the reason you are now getting this full of nonsense blog. :)

The other reason is that I've had late nights at work all week and little energy or drive to deal with it.  However, last night's late night was not due to work.  We actually went out with a couple that we met at our church's young adult life group.  They are into food and restaurants, and we were up for trying a new place.  We went to dinner and then just sat and talked for a few hours.  It was great to be out making new friends.  It also helped take my mind off of my irritating situation.  We have a LOT in common.  The guy likes sports and video games just like Michael.  The girl is a teacher who likes to do crafts... just like ME! :)  They are right around our age and have a 3 year old daughter.  We will definitely be hanging out with them again soon.  It was nice to be back into some sort of a social scene.

There you have it... my excuse.  I figured I better not miss a second day or all sorts of people would be breathing down my back. ;)  I hope to be back at it next week.  Sorry for the boring post.  Thanks for being faithful friends and readers.  I hope you all have a fabulous Saturday!

Dr. News

Well, I don't have much to report from the doctor.  One, because I'm never told anything! :)  But really, and most importantly, because everything is going good.  Thank the Lord!

* I did ask about taking the iron and thyroid medication together.  She said it's not a problem.  She did say, however, that my levels will continue to be watched and if it looks like they are canceling each other out... or the levels aren't where they should be... then we will change things up.

* My belly is measuring right at 30 weeks, and since I will be 30 weeks on Sunday, she said that is perfectly fine/normal.  I said I was concerned about having a big baby and she said everything is normal as of right now.

* We did get to listen to the heartbeat.  She didn't tell us the beats per minute this time, but she said it sounded good and that Olivia sounded happy. :)

*She checked in with me on feeling movements, but still no mention of kick counts.  I did read someone say that you only have to do them if you haven't felt the baby in a long time.  I feel her all throughout the day and night, so I'm not really worried.

* She also asked if I had been feeling tightening in my stomach (contractions, or Braxton Hicks).  She said it's normal and that I should be feeling them.  However, if I feel them more than 4 times an hour I need to empty my bladder, drink some water, and and lay down to rest.  She said if it keeps up, then call her.  I have noticed that a full bladder (or even what feels like a full one, but may not really be full) is the biggest culprit for me when it comes to BH.

That's about the extent of it.  I did the normal things--weighed in, peed in a cup and had my blood pressure taken.  Nothing was said about any of those though, so I guess all is good.  My next appointment is May 11th.  I literally sit in the waiting room longer than my actual appointment takes!  Again, I'm not complaining.  I am grateful for a healthy baby and an (overall) easy pregnancy!

Nursery, Part 3

There have been a few updates on the nursery.  It's almost done!  Since I promised to share the progress, here you go...

First, I really did buy an $8 tension rod like I said I would!  Those are the curtains from our old bedroom.  I just hung them up there and it worked out perfectly.  It may not be the best visually, but I think it's a heck of a lot better than seeing all those photo albums and books on the shelf.  I hate the look of clutter!
Also, the boppy is now hanging out on the bed waiting to be used.
Michael's grandma made the blanket for us.  It's so soft!

I finally got a light bulb for the lamp!
Also, I bought the ipod dock (that was on our registry).
Michael loaded his ipod with the baby C.D's we got.
Now I'm going to put the C.D's in the car for travel times.

Ideally, if we would have been in a house and I had lots of money to spend, I would have ended up getting one of those dressers with a hutch.  I've seen so many on blogs, and I always love the way they help decorate the room.  Since we didn't get a hutch, I decided to make my own "hutch like" decoration and added shelves.  I really wanted dark ones to match our furniture, but I couldn't find any anywhere.  So, I settled for this set, which turned out to be 50% off at Kohl's when I finally went back to buy them. Score! :)
Also, I was going to do 4 baskets.  I went and bought one at Babies R Us.  It was the last one they had.  When I got it home it just looked really dingy and dirty and bent compared to the 3 I had.  I had already bought the buckets to put in a basket to hold small things.  Both Michael and I decided we liked it without the fourth basket.  The buckets add a different color, which is always good.

One bucket is filled with pacis and pacifier holders.
The other has teethers in it right now.
The baskets are full of swaddlers, blankets, sheets, and mattress covers.

Here are the shelves so far
The bird house picture is from Target.  I got it awhile ago, and wasn't sure where to put it.  This works.
The sunshine picture is from Hobby Lobby.
The bird was a wish list item from etsy that my mother-in-law bought me for my shower.  I love it!  (So did everyone else at the shower.)  It's a little bigger than I thought, but still works.  It makes me happy! :)

It's from this seller.  You can choose your colors.
I pretty much love everything she sells/makes!!!

My mother-in-law also bought this for me from etsy
She got it from this seller.  Again, I got to choose the fabric from a few choices.  I love it!
Once she starts sleeping in the crib, it will probably move over to the bed.  It will still add bird decor and color to the room and that is what I was looking for.

I recently bought this at Kohl's
It's a little rattle/stuffed animal/blankie thing.  It's so soft.  I wanted to get a blankie like this, and then when I saw one that said "Mommy loves me" I had to get it.  EVERYTHING for girls says daddy this and daddy that.  What's up with that?! ;)

We also mounted the video monitor
I was going to put it on one of the white shelves, but Michael didn't like the wire hanging down.
This actually works better.

The closet also got a makeover
This section above the dresser is just newborn and size 0 to 3 month clothes.
Remember, I got lots of hand me downs!  Without them, there would only be half!
Also, I only have one pack of diapers for the first three sizes.  2 packages were given to me, and then I bought the newborn size.  That's all I'm going to do for now.  I've heard it's best to wait.  You don't know what size your baby is going to be... how fast they'll grow out of a size... if the brand will work with your little one.  Plus, I plan on using Amazon mom for diapers once the time comes.

This side goes from size 3 months to 9ish months
We actually have quite a few 12 month outfits, but I ran out of closet space! :)
Right now they are taking up a drawer in the dresser in Michael's closet.

Oh, and my mother-in-law bought me these from etsy too
Originally I planned on making closet dividers, but when I saw these I had to have them.
There is no way I could have made something so perfect.  Seriously?! Green and pink owls, birds and cherry blossoms! LOVE! :) (from here)

The baskets
One is full of hats, sunglasses, and hairbows
The other is bibs and burp clothes
The last is socks

Oh, and the shoes!
This isn't in the nursery, but it's baby related.
I had this shelf in my classroom, and now it is under the bar in my living room.
It's full of baby toys.

I just need a few more things for the newly hung shelves and we are good to go!

Talk it out?

Recently I have been hearing, reading, or seeing (on TV) people talking about how they need to have this big discussion with their spouse.  It's either before the baby is born, or after the baby is born and they realize they are not on the same page.  I guess I'm at a loss.  I don't know that there is anything Michael and I really need to "talk out".

First, let me say that some of the questions don't really apply to us.  For example, to circumsize or not to circumsize.  We are having a girl, so it's irrelevant.  (Although, I had no idea it was becoming such a hot topic.  I thought it was sort of a given?!)  Or, to baptize or not to baptize and in what church.  We don't believe in infant baptism, and the people that have to "discuss" this are usually people that don't really have a church.  We have a church, and she will be dedicated.

I think we were raised similar in some areas and very different in others, but overall we have the same beliefs, hopes, dreams and goals for our family and our child(ren).  We also have the same basic views on discipline, structure, and rules.  Am I being naive?  Am I missing something?

We know each others strengths and weaknesses.  I know that when it comes to having a baby, there are times that Michael will lean on me and my knowledge of children.  I also know that there will be times ahead where I will lean on him and his knowledge.  Overall, we are a very good team.  We have a pretty easy marriage (at least I think we do).  We are both very verbal, and I'm sure we would say something if necessary.  We both are also willing to compromise.  I know everyone says having a baby "changes things" and makes a marriage harder.  Since I don't have one yet, I don't know what to expect.  I really think we'll be able to work together pretty well though.

So to all you veteran parents out there...  Did you sit down and have a talk about how things are going to be done?  Do you wish you would have?  Is there something that you think Michael and I need to "talk out" before the baby is born?

I will say that the one thing we already have been discussing (and need to keep discussing) is what we want to happen to our children in case something should happen to both of us.  We know we need to get a will in place.  We've had a brief discussion about it already.  We pretty much agree on the "checklist" of things we want in the person(s) we will be leaving our children to.  A few names have been thrown out, but nothing has been settled.  Other than that, I just don't know what there would be to discuss.

I really am curious, so I look forward to your answers! :)

29 Weeks

I think I need to find a new spot for my bump pictures.  My bump keeps getting lost in the subwoofer! :)

How far along: 29 weeks

Size of baby: for weeks 29 to 32 (month 7) the baby is the size of a squash
Average size is 15.2-16.7 inches and between 2.5 to 3.8 pounds

Total weight gain/loss: +20.6

Maternity clothes: I'm still rotating the maternity clothes I have.  Right now the t-shirts, capris, leggings, tunics and skirts are perfect.  All EVERYONE says is how hot it is going to get, so I'm sure I'll be moving into sundresses and shorts soon.

Gender: It's a girl!  Olivia Grace is on her way!

Movement: She's on the move--all the time!  It's getting stronger all the time too.

Sleep: It's somewhat of the same: it takes me a bit to get comfortable, I get up every two hours to pee, but I'm still sleeping pretty good.  My back has good days and bad days when waking up! :)

What I miss: sleeping on my stomach, not having to pee all the time!, getting off the couch easily, bending over easily :)

Cravings: sweets

Symptoms: the usual pregnancy things... back ache, sometimes uncomfortable, swollen or sore feet

Fun Purchases: I had planned to go to Babies R Us to get a basket (I got three of the four at my shower) and some scent free dryer sheets.  I asked the guy at the desk if it was possible to get my completion coupon early.  He said yes and printed me out a 15% off coupon.  (Some places only get 10%?!).  The coupon can only be used once, so I decided to go ahead and use it.  I printed off my registry and then filled my cart with some of the "must have" or "really want" items off our registry that I didn't get at my shower.  I didn't buy everything.  I figured some things could wait until after she arrived.  That way we could see if we really needed them.  I did get a good bit though.  I didn't get my completion coupon from Target yet, but I did pick up a few things from there as well.  It was mostly just stuff I needed to get the room really ready (mattress pad covers, a pack of newborn diapers, etc).

Surprises: My friend Wendy, who use to be my team teacher, emailed me right before I went to Ohio for the shower.  She has 2 little girls, one 4 and one 10 months.  She said that she was going through things and thought of me.  They are done having kids, and everyone else she knows is either having boys or just had a boy.  She said she was blessed by many people who passed things along to her that she didn't get at her shower and she wanted to bless us the same.  She gave me two big boxes full of clothes and other items that hadn't been purchased off of our registry (boppy, boppy covers, snuggle me for car seat, etc.).  Remember, her youngest is only 10 months, so she only gave me clothes up to 9 months old... and it was a TON!  :)  We won't have to buy any baby clothes for a long time.  It was truly a blessing.

Best Moment this week: Having everything we need for Olivia's arrival feels pretty good.  I've been working on and off all week washing baby clothes, folding baby clothes, and finding places for baby items.  Hopefully everything will have a place soon!

Milestones: I'm in my 7th month!!

Funny: I thought this was funny--there were two things I read repeatedly (and was told by friends and family) NOT to register for.  Everyone said you don't need to register for receiving blankets or bibs because everyone thinks those kind of things are cute and will buy you them anyway.  I didn't get ONE receiving blanket or ONE bib (except maybe a cutsie one that went with an outfit).  Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining!  We have plenty of blankets and swaddlers, and I have picked up a bib here and a bib there over the past few months.  We are not in need.  I just thought it was hilarious how different my shower was compared to what everyone said.  People really did stick to the registry for the most part (which is great!).

Upcoming dates:
*My next Dr.'s appointment is on the 27th
*We are attending our hospitals child birthing class on May 7th and 8th.

Happy Easter!

I'm so thankful that He's alive, that I am forgiven, and that He died for me.

1 John 3:16

16 This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.

John 19:30

30 When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

Isaiah 53:5-6

5 But he was pierced for our transgressions,
   he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was on him,
and by his wounds we are healed.
6 We all, like sheep, have gone astray,
   each of us has turned to our own way;
and the LORD has laid on him
   the iniquity of us all.

Mark 15:37-39

37 With a loud cry, Jesus breathed his last.
38 The curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. 39 And when the centurion, who stood there in front of Jesus, saw how he died,[a] he said, “Surely this man was the Son of God!”

Easter Crafts

While roaming the aisles of Hobby Lobby a few months ago, I decided to pick up a few simple and easy Easter crafts.  I've noticed that places like Hobby Lobby, JoAnn's and Michael's are good for pre-packaged art projects.  However, you have to be on top of your game!  You can't go in the week of a holiday and expect to find something.  After many failed attempts, I think I've finally learned my lesson! :)

I like Hobby Lobby.  There stuff is always on sale, and since they are a Christian company, there are always religious choices for the religious holidays.  Unfortunately, sometimes the cutest stuff comes in packs of 10.  That doesn't help me much.

I picked these up

Little Man loves Easter.  He thinks little chicks are "so cute", so I got the sun catcher.  It wasn't quite as easy as I was thinking.
You had to use a little tool to spread the paint.  It was very difficult and Little Man was not impressed.  I'm glad I only bought one... there were butterflies and eggs and other such fun and I thought of getting multiple ones.  This was somewhat of a fail.  Here's the best we could do:

I don't mind egg hunts, baskets, cute little bunnies and chicks, but I wanted to make sure there was a balance with what Easter is really about.  I didn't think Little Man really knew, so I thought using an art project would help.  As we were starting the project I asked him what Easter was about and he said "Uh... the Easter bunny?"  I said, "No, it's about Jesus dying on the cross for our sins".  He knows about God and Jesus, so this actually interested him.
As he colored, I started explaining what each piece was that he was coloring.  He really was into it.  He was asking questions and putting it all together.  Technically he's Catholic, but I didn't figure I'd get in trouble. :)

(Sorry, I didn't realize the picture was blurry!)
After he was done coloring it all, we went through the story again.  If nothing else, he's at least heard it.

Baby Shower!!!!!!

Like I said, I had a great trip to Ohio.  The flight wasn't that great--I was literally seconds away from having to use the barf bag, but thankfully I recovered.  My sister picked me up and we had a nice afternoon--(non raw) sushi, shopping and pedicures.

On Friday I got to hang out with Laurie.  We ran some errands, and then while she went to pick the boys she watches up from school, I took a nap!  We met my sister for dinner at Bonefish Grill.  Umm... YUM!

My cousin, aunt, mom and grandma got in early Saturday.  We met at Max and Erma's for lunch so I could get some tortilla soup.  From there it was shower time!

These were the invitations that my friend Laurie made
The house was covered in cute little pink and brown lady bugs!

Here are just a few examples

Laurie painted two flower pots brown and filled them with mints.  So cute!

Baby!!!

I took a picture of the food real quick before guests arrived, so this is not completely what the presentation was.  There were many more options and it was laid out better, but I was really just trying to get a picture of the decorations.
Another flower pot with a plant... a pink table cloth with brown polka dots!

The cupcakes were a hit

Me and my cousin Sonja--who is also pregnant, just not as far along

My cousins Sonja and Erica

Unfortunately, I didn't take a picture with the hostesses. :(
My sister Angella, friend Laurie and Aunt Laurie did a great job!

My Aunt Laurie was in charge of the game.  I'm so glad I had hostesses who were on the same page as me when it came to games.  I'm not really too thrilled with them.  (Especially since I have a mother who thinks she needs to win everything and creates a scene!)  Plus, I find most of the traditional ones cheesy.  The hostesses agreed that we would play ONE game and my aunt was in charge.

She filled a box with 22 small baby items--most were off of my registry.  Everyone had about ten seconds to look at it and then they had to write down what they remembered.
Pregnancy brain zapped my usually-very-good memory and I could only remember 9... and I'M the one who registered for them! :)

Others trying to remember
Cindy, Wendy, Ann and Linda

My grandma, Kristin (who won), Anne, and my mom--being my mom!
Not pictured-Ang, Laurie, Laurie, Andrea, Sonja, Erica, Donna and Jen

Then as my aunt read of the items, I got to pull them out of the box.
These items (along with a diaper champ) were my aunts gift to me.  Clever!
Something was funny?

Thankfully, I mostly got "must have" items off of my registry... with a few cute clothes thrown in, of course! :)

I got a text from my friend Kim who couldn't make it that said she forgot to send the card, but it was suppose to read "What every Texas gal needs: a schnazzy dress, dancing shoes and a barn full of ponies"
It was a big hit! :)  (There were shoes and another horse blankie/toy thing)

Michael loved the horses.  He was also pretty happy about this next gift

We were definitely blessed!  Some people couldn't make the shower and either sent a gift with a friend or have mailed gifts to our apartment.  We are so thankful for the wonderful family and friends in our life.  We are all set for our little girl to come! :)

I finished out the trip with family time, plus Laurie who decided she was an "honorary" cousin. :)
We ate out, we talked, we laughed, we went off on rude teenage girls (ok, that was just me!), we shopped, we ate some more, and we enjoyed each others company.

The road trip back went well too.  We decided to just go ahead and do it all in one day.  It took us 18 hours, which wasn't bad.  A HUGE thank you to my friend Laurie who offered to drive back with me.  Good and loyal friends are hard to come by these days!  I am thankful for her.

28 Weeks

How far along: 28 weeks

Size of baby: for weeks 25 to 28 the baby is the size of an eggplant

Total weight gain/loss: I wasn't home on Sunday ("official weigh in day") to use my own scale.  Plus, I wasn't eating normal for the past few days.  I decided I'm not weighing in again until next Sunday.  So... no weight to report this week. :)

Maternity clothes: maternity clothes--I had to break out the long sleeve shirts and pants for my trip to Ohio.  My feet have definitely grown though, so flip flops are about all that fit now.

Gender: It's a girl!  Olivia Grace is on her way!

Movement: Lots.  I think I'm suppose to start doing kick counts or something--my doctor hasn't said a thing, but according to what I've read it's suppose to start happening this week.

Sleep: I have a really hard time getting comfortable and sometimes it takes me a looong time to fall asleep, but once I actually fall asleep I sleep pretty good.  I don't sleep much past 8 hours (even when I can sleep in) because my aching back wakes me.

What I miss: sleeping on my stomach, not having to pee all the time!, getting off the couch easily, bending over easily :)

Cravings: Again, not really "cravings", but I got to eat a few of the foods I've been wanting or missing... Max and Erma's tortilla soup, Raising Canes Chicken (mostly for the sauce), cheesecake!!!

Symptoms: swollen ankles/hands/feet, shortness of breath (which I heard could be from lack of iron), back pain, trouble getting comfortable-even when just sitting.  I also got emotional when Michael dropped me off at the airport.  I would definitely chalk that up to pregnancy hormones.  Even though I love my husband and would miss him dearly, I wouldn't normally cry.  I started feeling sad/emotional about it as I was packing the day before I left.  I held it together while he actually said good bye, but then cried on my way to the terminal and at the terminal.

Surprises:  I PASSED my glucose test!!!  WOO HOO!!!!!  I am seriously shocked.  I don't know why.  I don't eat terrible.  I just figured that since I had a family history and was over weight and over 30 that it was going to be a given.  I never heard from the doctor, so I called yesterday to ask if "no news was good news".  The lady checked and said I did just fine.  She said the cut off was 139 (or 136, can't remember) and mine was at 123 so I was doing "just fine".  I wasn't even borderline!! I'm so happy!

Fun Purchases: nothing!  I was waiting until after my shower to see what I got.

Other: I mentioned it last week, but I am really frustrated with my doctor's office.  My doctor is sweet, but a little scatter brained it seems.  Anytime someone asks who my doctor is and I say her name I get rave reviews.  There were rave reviews on the internet, which is why I went to her in the first place.  I just feel like I'm not getting enough information or something.  Plus, some of the office staff isn't the friendliest.  There have been a few other incidents too (like not calling me to tell me my thyroid was out of whack and I needed on medication asap!).  I'm so thankful for websites like the bump, books to read, and friends and family to get information from.  If it wasn't for that, I'd be lost.  Sometimes it feels like the bump is more my doctor than my doctor is! :)  Maybe it's because I'm having a relatively easy pregnancy.  No questions or problems equals no information?!?  Or maybe it's because other people don't read and gather information so they ask a ton of questions.  I'm just always seeing phrases like " My doctor said" or "My doctor told me".  My doctor isn't telling me a darn thing!  At this point, I'm not sure I'll be going back to her for future births.  We'll see how the next 12 weeks (and the birth) play out.

Dr. News: On Wednesday I told you about my doctor's appointment.  Wednesday afternoon I got a call from the doctor saying my iron levels were low, so they needed to call in a prescription for me.  I've asked about my iron levels in the past and they were always good, so this must be new.  I am now taking some sort of supplement.  This doesn't really surprise me (like the thyroid meds).  About every other time I try to give blood, I am turned away for having iron levels that are too low.  I'll take low iron over Gestational Diabetes any day! :)

My trip to Ohio was great.  My shower was wonderful.  I was very blessed and had a great time with friends and family.  More about that later this week!

Doctor Visit Update

Yesterday was the doctor's appointment I've been waiting for (and slightly dreading).

Here's the scoop:

*By a weird twist of events (or let's be real--God's hand), Michael was told on Monday night that he didn't have to come it at 8 on Tuesday--his normal time--but rather 9:45.  It had something to do with training they were doing.  My appointment was set for 9 and the ultrasound was to happen first thing.  He was able to come, see the ultrasound and Olivia (his absolute favorite thing to do!), and then head to work as I headed to the lab for a blood draw.  How cool is that? :)

*My placenta has moved way up, to the side and out of the way

*Olivia is no longer breech, but rather she is head down

*Her heart rate (two different times) was 148--down a little bit from 160 last time, but still good

*It's still a girl!  Thank goodness! :)

*Everything is measuring good with Olivia (head size, etc)

*Her estimated weight is 2 pounds, 11 ounces.  I have no idea if this is right on track or if it's a little big.  The week by week book we read said she should be around 2 pounds.  I feel like my doctor's office tells me nothing!  I'm getting a little frustrated with that.  Anyway, both Michael and I were almost 9 pound babies, so I'm expecting she'll be at least 8 pounds.  If she gains a half a pound a week from here on out (like she's "suppose to"), she'll be almost 9 and a half pounds.  Lord, I hope not!

*My blood pressure was up just slightly, but the nurse said it was from all the sugar I just drank.
It was still within the acceptable range.

*The thyroid medicine seems to be working.  My levels are good, so I don't have to up the medication.

*I had to drink the stuff for the glucose test.  It wasn't nearly as bad as everyone made it out to be.  It literally just tasted like very sweet fruit punch.  It wasn't thick or syrupy or anything like that.  Maybe they've improved it over the years?! :)

*I won't find out the results for a few days.  I'm actually happy about this.  I know with some doctors you find out the same day.  Others find out the very next day.  I asked last time, if I failed, when would I have to take the 3 hour test.  The nurse said within the week.  Well, I am going on vacation.  I didn't want to take it before vacation and then worry about what I was eating.  I also didn't want to have to take it the day I got back from vacation, after eating not so healthy (or at least away from home) for 5 days.  Hopefully I passed, but if I failed I'll most likely be taking the 3 hour test toward the end of next week.

*I start going to the doctor every two weeks now.  My next appointment is the 27th.

Here are some pictures
Her hands were by her face most of the time.  At one point it looked like she was trying to hide!

She almost looks like she might be sucking her thumb here?
From these pictures, it looks like she has Michael's chin... which really translates to, she doesn't have a chin! :)  He is not necessarily happy about this, as the whole reason he keeps a goatee is to make it look like he does have a chin. :)  Ha!  We'll see.  She'll be beautiful either way.

Spring Flowers

I was roaming the aisles of Hobby Lobby about a month ago and decided it was a good time to pick up some spring and Easter crafts.

I picked up these flowers for a dollar a piece

Yesterday was the perfect time to paint them.
We started with painting the stems green.

They ended up like this
Not bad for a $3 craft, huh?

These aren't the best pictures because of the sun, but I thought the flowers looked cute on the window sill.
Happy Spring!
